You graduated from Institut Teknologi Bandung and graphic design was not part of your what you have invested in. Tell us why the change of interest?

Dipa: I’ve studied Industrial Design as a major in college, and yes it doesn’t taught me layout or typography, but I could still apply the same design princinples and have the ability to think and make creative, user-centric design. These are a few of the most important things I have learned in ITB. In the near future we plan to collaborate with Indonesia Industrial Designer community to make infographics about Industrial Design in Indonesia. In Industrial Design there’s many new technology coming up now like 3D printer or 3D model scanner just using an X-Box Kinect. I would really love to explore the new possibilities with it.

Living in one of the most busiest city in the world, how has the chaos and erratic lifestyle influenced your interest in analysing statistics?

Ratih: Living in a busy city doesn’t influence my choice in studying statistics. My interest in statistics are from my father’s shared imparted knowledge.

How did the interest in decoding and dismantling facts and figures developed?

Ratih: Indonesia, I realised really lack recorded data. Worse, the recorded data are not treated properly. In Indonesia, the term infographics is a new trend since several years back although we frequently seen it being used. I saw the potential of infographics as a platform to deliver complex and substantial information with clear and fun approach thus its faster and easier to understand. When I was asked to develop infographics, it seems very fun, although it could stressful when doing the initial research.

What are the examples of themes of infographics that you both like?

Ratih: Social, environment, health and economy.
Dipa: Technology, sports and pop culture.

Is the process of forming the final infographic design a tedious and long one? Tell us who has the most control of the design process.

Ratih: Yes it is, but it’s really funt to complete a research and design an infographics..see it evolve from concept to final product. As a creative director, Dipa is responsible for visual approach and creative process, although we always discussed it in the beginning of each infographics.

What is your long term goal by creating House of Infographics?
